Cape Girardeau gets urban market, kitchen

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Cape Girardeau is getting a new grocery and kitchen.

Greens Garden located on 2 N Main Street recently held a soft opening on Thursday, September 7.

The store is an urban market with a butcher counter, and kitchen with locally grown and fresh produce and ingredients.

The market features in house butchering, grass fed cow’s milk, and other diary items, and they brew their own coffee.

The restaurant and kitchen menu has items like homemade juices, salads and even freshly prepared Indian food.

Owner Lance Green says the goal of the market is to share good food.

To be able to connect with people,” said Green. “We want to connect with as many different people as we can, and just to promote better food which we feel leads to better health.

Green is not only the owner but the dad as well. All the employees are family.

Green’s children and other family members pull together to run the store.

Charles Bertrand is owner of Spanish Street Mercantile in downtown Cape Girardeau and he says he has worked closely with the Green family over the years.

He says the market is a great addition to the community.

“Great concept, it’s well worth the downtown area becoming a market area. Thats what we need to be, said Bertrand.

The family owned, home grown, organically produced urban market welcomes diversity to their menu and works with small farmers across the Midwest.

The urban market is open for business.

However, they are still waiting on several items to be brought in.
