Cape Girardeau Girl Scout creates online tool to help students find books

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A Cape Girardeau Girl Scout is using technology to help younger students find books that match their interests and reading levels.
Gold Award Girl Scout Jaya Gremmels taught herself HTML, CSS and JavaScript to create an interactive, web-based reading interest survey. The tool helps elementary and middle school students identify book genres based on their individual preferences.
Gremmels also created an instructional video explaining how to use the survey and encouraging students to become more engaged with reading.
The survey and video were implemented in elementary and middle school settings to reach more students.
The project was created as part of Gremmels’ work toward the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting.
