Cape Girardeau Gun Violence Task Force examining city’s role in gun violence prevention
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The City of Cape Girardeau Gun Violence Task Force, a citizen-led advisory committee, is examining the city’s role in gun violence prevention.
During its inaugural planning session on July 23, the task force approved a tentative schedule, paving the way for recommendations to be presented to the City Council in December 2024.
The task force’s schedule includes presentations from various agencies and organizations, some of which may fall outside the local government’s purview.
Using insights gained from these presentations, the committee will identify recommended city goals related to policy and programming, as well as advocacy and awareness initiatives.
Meeting schedules have been adjusted to accommodate the task force’s needs and those of its guests.
The task force’s upcoming schedule includes a presentation to the City Council on Jan. 21, 2025.
