CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Local first responders and community members will take part in a 9/11 Memorial Walk on Thursday morning to honor the lives lost during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The 3.43-mile walk — symbolizing the 343 firefighters who died that day — will begin at 7 a.m. First responders are asked to report to Station 1, while members of the public are invited to gather at the sidewalk in front of Walmart and join the procession to the 9/11 memorial.
Participants are encouraged to bring American flags and to invite family and friends.
The walk is organized by the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, Jackson Police Department, Jackson City Government and the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office.
“This event pays tribute to every rescuer who made the ultimate sacrifice and every family impacted by 9/11,” organizers said in a statement. “The courage of the heroes of that day remains a powerful reminder of our collective resilience.”
