Cape Girardeau man accused of attempting to entice child

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — A Cape Girardeau man is accused of arranging a sexual encounter with someone he believed was a 13-year-old boy, according to a probable cause statement.

Cape Girardeau police arrested Kyle Wayne Vollrath on Tuesday, Sept. 1, after he allegedly arrived at a local business to meet the person.

Investigators said Vollrath began communicating with someone posing as a 13-year-old on a dating app. The conversation later moved to text messages and allegedly became sexual, even after Vollrath was told the person was 13.

According to the statement, Vollrath arranged to meet the person and discussed engaging in sexual activity. Officers took him into custody when he arrived at the designated location.

Police said Vollrath acknowledged during an interview that he believed he had been communicating with a 13-year-old boy and intended to engage in sexual activity.

Vollrath is accused of enticement or attempted enticement of a child. The probable cause statement was filed Wednesday, Sept. 2, in Cape Girardeau County.

The allegations contained in a probable cause statement have not been proven in court.
