Cape Girardeau man charged in stabbing incident on South West End Boulevard

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – A Cape Girardeau man has been arrested and charged following a stabbing that left one person hospitalized over the weekend, according to the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

At approximately 8:43 a.m. on October 25, officers responded to the 0–100 block of South West End Boulevard for a report of an individual bleeding after a physical altercation. Upon arrival, officers found a victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was treated at the scene by medical personnel and transported to a nearby hospital for further care.

During the investigation, officers identified the suspect as Mark Bell, 37, of Cape Girardeau. Surveillance cameras in the area reportedly showed Bell and the victim engaged in a physical confrontation. At one point, Bell is seen attacking the victim from behind. The victim then returned inside a residence before later exiting with visible blood on his shirt.

On October 26, at about 1:42 p.m., officers located Bell traveling on Interstate 55 near Nash Road. A traffic stop was conducted, and Bell was taken into custody. Police said evidence connected to the stabbing was recovered during the stop.

Bell has been charged by the Cape Girardeau County Prosecutor’s Office with first-degree assault (Class A felony), armed criminal action (felony), and unlawful use of a weapon (Class E felony). He is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond.

Authorities emphasized that the charges are merely accusations and that Bell is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
