CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A Cape Girardeau man faces a charge of resisting a lawful stop after police say he drove away from an officer during a traffic stop.

Ericonta Flenoid, 40, is charged with a Class E felony of resisting a lawful stop.

On March 7, 2023, at about 10:30 p.m. an officer with the Cape Girardeau Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for defective equipment.

While the officer was speaking with the driver of the vehicle, the driver placed the vehicle in gear and sped away before identifying himself to the officer, according to the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

The officer notified dispatch and began chasing the suspect. Due to the suspect driving in an erratic manner, the officer stopped the chase to prevent any injuries to the public.

The vehicle was later entered into the FLOCK system. About one hour after the vehicle was entered into the system, officers received an alert on the vehicle.

Officers found the vehicle and took Flenoid into custody.

Flenoid is being held on a $25,000 cash only bond.
