Cape Girardeau man facing murder charge in Charleston

CHARLESTON, Mo. (KBSI) – A Cape Girardeau man faces murder charges in Charleston after a deadly shooting on New Year’s Day.

Malik E. Jones, 20, of Caruthersville was found by Charleston police with several gunshot wounds in the 500 block of West Ada Street around 4 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

He died a short time later, according to police.

A homicide investigation began.

The Charleston Department of Public Safety was assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of Jimmy Hudson III, 18, of Cape Girardeau.

Hudson is charged with murder 1st, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance.

He was arrested in Cape Girardeau and will soon be returned to Mississippi County. His warrant has no bond.

The investigation is still ongoing.
