Cape Girardeau man, juvenile arrested after police chase reach speeds more than 90 mph

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A Cape Girardeau man faces a felony charge of receiving stolen property after police say he led police on a chase that reached more than 90 miles an hour before crashing.
Jakari Beal, 20, of Cape Girardeau faces a class D felony of receiving stolen property and class A misdemeanor of resisting a lawful detention.
An officer with the Cape Girardeau Police Department saw a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed and crossing the center line multiple times near N. Kingshighway and Themis Street around 4 a.m. on August 13.
The officer caught up to the vehicle and activated his emergency lights and sirens. Police say the driver failed to yield to the officer’s emergency vehicle and continued driving east on Broadway at a speed of more than 90 miles per hour.
The vehicle crashed near N. Water and Independence Street.
After the vehicle crashed, police say both the driver and passenger got out of the vehicle and began running west from that location.
An officer arrested the driver who was later identified as a juvenile. The passenger was identified as Jakari Beal
Police say the vehicle was stolen within the past few hours from a neighboring city. Officers also found six firearms during the investigation. Two of the firearms were reported as being stolen.
Beal was being held on a no bond warrant.
Police say more charges could be filed.
