Cape Girardeau man now facing murder charge after victim dies

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Charges against a man originally charged with assault have been amended to murder.

Jacob Jungers, 32, of Cape Girardeau now faces a charge of Class A felony of murder in the second degree.

He was originally charged with Class A felony of assault in the 1st degree with a $50,000 cash only bond.

On July 11, the Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office amended the original charge of assault 1st to class A felony of murder in the second degree after the victim died.

Jacob Jungers remains in custody with a $1 million cash only bond.

On Saturday, July 1, around 9 a.m. officers with the Cape Girardeau Police department were called to the 300 block of S. Sprigg for a report of an assault.

The suspect had already left the area, but the victim was still being treated by first responders and was later taken to the hospital for life threatening injuries.

On July 4, around 2 a.m. an officer with the Cape Girardeau police department received a flock alert that the suspect vehicle was in Cape Girardeau. Officers located the vehicle on the 500 block of S. Sprigg, where they found Jungers laying down in the back seat trying to hide himself.

Officers took Jungers into custody and he was transported to the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
