Cape Girardeau native hired as city’s finance director

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The city of Cape Girardeau brought in one of their own as the city’s new finance director.

Cape Girardeau native Lisa Mills has been hired as the city’s new finance director.

The city’s finance division administers the city’s budget, records receipts, and processes payments for all of the city’s purchases.

City officials say the annual budget is adopted by council and provides funding for staffing and general guidance to the city’s departments for the fiscal year.

“We are excited to have someone of Lisa’s caliber join the team,” said City Manager Dr. Kenneth Haskin. “She’s a local taxpayer, too, so we know she’ll be a good steward of community resources.”

The new finance position opened in September when Dustin Ziebold announced his resignation.

Mills is transitioning into her new role later this week — a role she is welcoming with open arms.

She has an extensive background in organizational management, finance, team leading and 10 years in public accounting, along with being a certified public accountant.

“I’m looking forward to change. I’m looking forward to the ability to work with the team, affect change, and see that those things we’re doing are helping the citizens and the city,” said Mills.

Mills is born and raised in Cape Girardeau, with family roots in southeast Missouri. Her passion and knowledge of Cape Girardeau is a precursor to success in this position.

“I will look at the teams and the members and everybody that plays a part in the finance of the city and the areas I’m responsible for, and make sure we’re all in line, and doing what the city expects us to do and what is responsible,” Mills said.

Cape Girardeau is a regional hub for southeast Missouri. Its finance department is what helps it to stay that way.

She’s eager and anxious to get involved and start helping the community of Cape Girardeau the best she can.
