Cape Girardeau neighbors helping neighbors through storm cleanup efforts

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Many businesses in the Cape Girardeau area are cleaning up after they took a direct hit from last night’s storms.
Liz Haynes is the Executive Director of Old Town Cape Inc and she talks about the community coming together and helping neighbors.
“Ya know it’s just been so encouraging rallying around in support, just down the street we have Spanish Street Mercantile, they lost their front window, I think had some roof damage as well and as early as last night they had several of their neighbors rallying around them in support, coming to help them, their neighbors building to help get it all boarded up” says Haynes.
Kent Zickfield, Owner of Zickfeild Jewlers is one of the business owners located in downtown Cape Girardeau who’s business was directly affected by the storm. He says he had recently put a brand-new roof on his building.
“We haven’t had a new roof on their three weeks and then this tornado came through, but I guess that’s just life, isn’t it?” says Zickfield.
Zickfeild says he’s just thankful it wasn’t worse…
“Alot of people down here hit pretty bad and hurt a lot worse than we are so, thankful for that and thankful that no one was hit by any flying debris because it could’ve been a whole lot worse.”
