CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) — Three men were taken into custody early Sunday after a shooting incident that began with an altercation in Cape Girardeau, police said.

Officers responded around 1 a.m. July 6 to reports of shots fired in the 600 block of Woodbine Place.

Witnesses told investigators a physical altercation had taken place earlier in the night.

According to the Cape Girardeau police department, Hayden Bowman, 20, of Scott City, and Devon Raffety, 20, of Cape Girardeau, drove back to the residence, where Bowman got out of the passenger side of the vehicle with a shotgun and pointed it at several people outside.

Marqueas Corbitt, 21, of Cape Girardeau, then fired several rounds from a handgun at the vehicle in what police said was self-defense.

Around 3:20 a.m., officers found Bowman and Raffety in the 100 block of E. Rodney Drive and took them into custody. Police recovered a shotgun and ammunition from their vehicle. Investigators later determined Corbitt’s handgun had been reported stolen.

Raffety has been charged by the Cape Girardeau County Prosecutor’s Office with third degree assault, a Class E felony. He is being held on a $5,000 surety bond.

Bowman faces a Class E felony charge of unlawful use of a weapon and is being held on a $30,000 cash only bond.

Corbitt was charged with two counts of first degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, and one count of receiving stolen property. He is being held on a $100,000 cash only bond.

An offense charge is merely an accusation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
