Cape Girardeau Police Department announce Employee of the Year


CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Brad McKlin has been named the Cape Girardeau Police Department’s 2024 Employee of the Year.

McKlin, who celebrated his 16th anniversary with the department in October, currently serves as the department’s IT technician. He began his career with the department as a jailer in 2008 and later transferred to station commander before taking on his current role in July 2023.

As IT technician, McKlin plays a crucial role in ensuring the department’s technology runs smoothly around the clock. He is responsible for maintaining and updating the department’s technology-based equipment.

McKlin’s dedication to his work has earned him recognition from his colleagues. He is known for being available 24/7 to assist with IT issues, no matter how trivial they may seem.

In July, McKlin’s expertise was put to the test when a faulty software update caused widespread computer crashes, including those at the City of Cape Girardeau. McKlin responded quickly, restoring the department’s computer services within hours. He also provided a solution to the city’s IT department, helping to expedite the recovery process.

McKlin has also taken on additional responsibilities, including purchasing new laptops for the department’s patrol vehicles. He navigated the complex process with ease, ultimately selecting the best laptops to meet the department’s needs.

McKlin’s commitment to his work and his colleagues has earned him the respect and admiration of the department. His dedication to duty is a testament to his exceptional work ethic.
