Cape Girardeau Police Department to implement stolen vehicle locator system

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – With multiple vehicles stolen throughout the county and city last year, law enforcement is stepping up their game, and fighting back with the Flock System.

Cape Girardeau Police Public Information Officer Bobby Newton explains how it works.

“It’s basically a nationwide camera system, license plate reader,” Newton said. “So, if we get any stolen vehicles, subjects with warrants, we can enter them into this system. And we have license plate readers throughout the city that will alert us, hey there is a vehicle that’s stolen. And then officers can respond and recover that vehicle.”

The information is also entered into a national data base so if another agency has a stolen vehicle and it comes to Cape Girardeau, police there will be alerted as well.

The Flock stolen vehicle locator system is expected to be in place by the end of the year.
