Cape Girardeau Police Departments Neighborhood Roll Call Program Returns

Cape Girardeau, Mo. (KBSI23) – Law enforcement officers and first responders initiated a summer program aimed at fostering stronger connections with the community.

The highly anticipated Neighborhood Roll Call program by the Cape Girardeau Police Department is back.

This event provides an opportunity for the community to meet officers and gain insights into the happenings in their neighborhoods.

Bobby Newton, Public Information Officer of Cape PD, highlighted the purpose of the event, stating, “It’s an event to gather the neighborhoods together and, like I said, learn about your officers and address any concerns that they might have in their neighborhoods.”

The Roll Call program offers the public a chance to interact with law enforcement and first responders in a more relaxed and enjoyable setting, rather than during emergency situations.

Newton explained that officers discuss various topics during the roll call, such as high-crime areas, potential stolen vehicles, and other relevant information for the evening briefings as shifts begin or end.

Moreover, the Roll Call program aims to reassure community members.

Paula and Don Bouge, local residents, expressed their support for the initiative, with Paula stating, “I think it’s pretty cool. I think it’s something every neighborhood needs. It makes you feel a little safer.”
