Cape Girardeau police investigate shooting on Kenwood Dr.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Officers responded to a shooting in the 1300-block of Kenwood Drive on May 11, 2025, at approximately 11:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found a victim with an apparent gunshot wound to the head inside a GMC Yukon. The victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Cacey W. Bright, the driver of the vehicle, was taken into custody. Bright stated that she had been loading a magazine into a gun and thought she hit the magazine release but “must have pulled the trigger.”

A search warrant was executed on the vehicle, and a blue and pink Glock 9mm firearm was seized, along with multiple rounds of ammunition and a spent shell casing.

Bright’s phone was examined, and officers found a series of photos taken inside the vehicle. The photos showed Bright handling a pistol magazine and a loaded handgun.

The investigation is ongoing.
