Cape Girardeau Police looking for driver after 2 police chases, another driver injured

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Cape Girardeau police ask for any information from the public after police chased the same vehicle twice on Tuesday.
An officer with the Cape Girardeau Police Department tried to conduct a traffic stop on a silver Kia Optima for a traffic violation in the area of S. Sprigg and Highway 74 around 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6.
The vehicle failed to yield and officers began to pursue the vehicle.
During the chase, officers decided to stop the pursuit due to the risk to public safety. A short time later, officers found the vehicle again and tried another traffic stop on the vehicle in lighter traffic conditions. During the second police chase, the suspect vehicle struck a citizen’s vehicle, according to Cape Girardeau police. Due to safety reasons to the general public, the chase was called off again.
The vehicle that was struck by the suspect vehicle received minor damage. The driver of the vehicle was taken to an area hospital for what appears to be non-life threatening injuries, according to police.
The incident is still being investigated.
