Cape Girardeau police report stabbing incident on N Lorimier Street
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.(KBSI) — A man is recovering after being stabbed during an altercation near downtown Cape Girardeau.
Cape Girardeau police responded to the 200 block of North Lorimier for a report of a stabbing.
Officers found one victim suffering from what officials described as a severe stab wound.
“He was bloody,” said Bobby Newton, Cape Girardeau Public Information Officer. “He was treated at the scene and then transported by EMS to a local hospital.”
A resident who lives nearby described seeing a large police presence as first responders assisted the victim.
Officers located the suspect, Lance Johnson, about a block away from the scene. Investigators later found a steak knife with apparent blood on it in a trash can after executing a search warrant.
Newton said multiple officers responded to the scene immediately. “Any time there’s a severe incident such as a stabbing or gunshot victim, all of our resources are directed toward that so we can get the suspect into custody quickly,” Newton said.
Police want to reassure residents that thid was a isolated situation. “It was an isolated incident,” Newton said. “The individuals knew each other. They had worked together. So it wasn’t a random person running around stabbing people for no apparent reason.”
Johnson was taken into custody, the investigation is ongoing.
