Cape Girardeau Public Schools names Dr. Brice Beck next superintendent

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Cape Girardeau Public Schools has named Dr. Brice Beck as its next superintendent.

The district’s Board of Education selected Beck, who currently serves as deputy superintendent, to succeed Dr. Howard Benyon following his retirement at the end of the 2026-27 school year.

The district said announcing Beck’s selection early will allow him and Benyon to work together throughout the upcoming school year to provide continuity during the leadership transition.

“I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve as the next Superintendent of Cape Girardeau Public Schools,” Beck said. “This is a special school community, and I am proud of the work taking place across our District every day.”

Beck joined the district’s central office in 2022 after serving as an administrator at Cape Central High School. He was named the 2025 Southeast Missouri Deputy Superintendent of the Year.

Before becoming an administrator, Beck worked as a teacher and coach at McCluer High School in the Ferguson-Florissant School District and at Dexter and Hayti high schools.

Benyon said Beck has played a key role in implementing the district’s strategic plan and understands its long-term goals.

“He understands where we are, where we want to go, and the work it will take to get there,” Benyon said. “I am confident he will continue moving our school district forward.”

Beck will officially take over as superintendent following Benyon’s retirement at the conclusion of the 2026-27 school year.
