Cape Girardeau Public Schools names Tyler Abernathy director of Career and Technology Center

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Cape Girardeau Public Schools has named Tyler Abernathy as the new director of the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center, effective July 1, 2026.

Abernathy brings experience as an administrator, classroom instructor and coach. He most recently served as assistant director of the Career and Technology Center, a role that provided him with familiarity with the center’s programs, partnerships and long-term goals.

“Mr. Abernathy brings an energy and enthusiasm to learning that is infectious,” Superintendent Howard Benyon said. “His experience and plans to fully engage the community will be instrumental in growing participation at the CTC and expanding opportunities for our students.”

Abernathy holds a specialist degree in educational leadership from Southeast Missouri State University, a master’s degree in educational leadership from William Woods University, and a bachelor’s degree in physical education and health from Lindenwood University. He plans to pursue a doctoral degree in education.

The Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center offers hands-on learning experiences and career-focused pathways designed to prepare students for postsecondary education and the workforce. District leaders said they are confident Abernathy’s leadership will continue to strengthen programs and expand partnerships with local businesses and industry.
