CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – 17 teams and 60 talented skaters came to Cape Girardeau Roller Derby’s first-ever Summer Slam event.
The summer slam tournament took place at the A.C. Brase Arena in Cape Girardeau.
Kristin Rickman, also known as Fakin’ Bacon with Cape Girardeau Roller Derby says it’s great to see how the sport of roller derby is growing in the area.
“We do work for our community, and we get lots of exercise. This is a great way to make friends. We get our me time we get our stress relief,” said Rickman.
Raymie Hart, also known as Diana Slama, says in 2020 the roller derby stopped due to the pandemic and is just now bouncing back.
She says this summer slam allows those involved with the sport to bond and continue to grow the leagues.
“For everybody to come together and just kind of mingle and meet other people and really grow their skater family within other leagues it is so important,” said Hart.
