Cape Girardeau Roller Derby takes place June 22nd at 6 pm at the AC Brase Arena

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI)- The Cape Girardeau Roller Derby takes place on June, 22 for their second home scrimmage of the season as they welcome the Demolition City Roller Derby team from Evansville Indiana.

Kristin Rickman is the League Spokesperson and derby runner herself with the Cape Girardeau Roller Derby and she tells Fox23 about what fans can look forward to today during one of their four home meets this season. The two remaining home matches this season include August 17th and November 16th. Rickman says, “today is an event that’s great for anyone who’s never watched roller derby because we have a whole host of games happening.” Rickman went on to say, “there are eight games happening today and you’ll see everything from the beginner level skaters all the way up to some world ranked skaters.”
Rickman says that the event will consist of eight different scrimmages all leading up to the main event June, 22 at 6 pm with door opening at 5 pm. “Skating in our various scrimmages, finishing off with the main event at 6 PM, which will be a mixture of cape and visiting skaters.”
Abigail Patrick is one of the skaters for the Cape Girardeau Roller Derby and she says the event is about having fun and more. “It’s more of just Having something fun to do and exercising, and also having fun and making friends and also raising money for charity.”
Rickman says that joining Roller Derby was one of the best decisions she’s made saying, “I Joined Cape Girardeau roller derby 10 years ago and it’s really been one of the best things that I’ve ever done for myself.”
Rickman invites anyone to join the Cape Girardeau Roller derby, encouraging people that its a tight knit community that is inviting to anyone. “Derby is a really open and supportive community derby really is for everyone just like my shirt says doesn’t matter your gender your age as long as you’re over 18 your body size what kind of shape you’re in your history of playing sports none of that really matters because roller derby is going to be a whole new experience for you.”
Patrick tells Fox23 about the best part of being apart of the Cape Girardeau Roller Derby even after just one year, “I’ve only been here For one year but what I enjoy most is probably just like the vibes of hanging down there and high fives every time you get back , and also high fiving the crowd when you get done, it’s fun.”
