Cape Girardeau swimmer wins national title, earns spot on Team USA

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — River City Aquatics swimmer Ty Thomas won his first 18-and-under national championship in the 100-meter backstroke at the Speedo Junior National Championships.
The victory earned Thomas a place on the 2026 USA Junior Pan Pacific Games Team and USA Swimming’s National Junior Team.
Thomas trains under head coach Bobby Brewer at River City Aquatics in Cape Girardeau.
“I couldn’t be more proud of Ty for the work he’s put in and his dedication to executing the plan we laid out at the beginning of the season,” Brewer said.
Brewer also qualified for the National Junior Team in the 100 backstroke when he was Thomas’ age.
Thomas will represent the United States at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships from Aug. 17-20 at the University of British Columbia Aquatic Centre in Vancouver, Canada.
The international competition features top swimmers age 18 and younger from the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and other Pacific Rim countries.
