Cape Girardeau voters to decide on Transportation Trust Fund sales tax extension

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Voters in Cape Girardeau will decide on April 8 whether to extend the Transportation Trust Fund Sales Tax, a 0.5% sales tax that funds road repair, construction and renovation projects.
The tax, which has been renewed every five years since 1995, is the primary funding source for transportation projects in the city.
Proposed projects for the next five-year cycle, known as TTF7, include:
Mount Auburn Road reconstruction
Perryville Road pavement repair and sidewalk addition
Sprigg Street pavement repair and sidewalk repair
Annual general maintenance projects
If sufficient funding is available, alternate projects may include:
Mount Auburn Road reconstruction from Kingshighway to Hopper Road
William Street pavement and sidewalk repair, with addition of pedestrian crossing signals
The proposed projects were recommended by the Harry Rediger Transportation Trust Fund Committee, a citizen advisory group, after hosting open house events and surveys in 2024.
