CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A Cape Girardeau woman was arrested early Wednesday after officers found suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia during a vehicle search, according to the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

Police said an officer conducting routine patrol around 2 a.m. March 11 near Broadview Street and Spartech Drive observed two people behind a business and made contact due to the late hour and suspicious circumstances.

While speaking with the individuals, the officer noticed items inside the vehicle commonly associated with illegal narcotics use.

When officers requested consent to search the vehicle, Natalie Scroggins, 47, of Cape Girardeau, declined.

Officers then requested a K-9 unit. A deputy with the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office responded and deployed a K-9, which alerted to the presence of narcotics.

During a search of the vehicle, officers said they located suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Scroggins was taken into custody and charged through the Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with possession of a controlled substance, a Class D felony.

She is being held on a $10,000 cash or surety bond.
