Cape Girardeau woman charged with unlawful use of a weapon

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — An 18-year-old woman has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon after admitting to firing a gun during a fight.

Police responded to reports of shots fired in the 2000 block of Sprigg Street on Jan. 8. No injuries or property damage were reported.

Amazia Watkins was identified as the suspect and taken into custody on Jan. 15. She told police she fired the gun to scare others involved in the fight.

The firearm was recovered, and Watkins was charged with a Class E felony. She is being held on $25,000 cash bond.

The Cape Girardeau Police Department notes that a criminal charge is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty
