CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Old Town Cape, Inc. will launch the holiday season with its seventh annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, Nov. 28, 2025, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in downtown Cape Girardeau.

Longtime Old Town Cape volunteer Teresa Maurer said the tradition continues to bring neighbors and visitors together each year. “It’s a moment we look forward to each year, where neighbors become friends and the spirit of the season fills the air,” Maurer said. “For those returning, welcome back. For those joining us for the first time, we’re glad you decided to join us.”

Attendees can watch Santa and Mrs. Claus light a 30-foot Christmas tree, which will remain in the Vasterling Suites Courtyard throughout the Christmas in Downtown season. The event will feature live music from the Jerry Ford Ensemble, Christmas carolers, illuminated aerial acrobatics, local food trucks, firepit s’mores stations and festive photo opportunities.

Food trucks and s’mores stations open at 5:30 p.m. Live music begins at 5:45 p.m., followed by the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus at 6:10 p.m. The tree lighting is scheduled for 6:20 p.m. Guests are encouraged to enjoy music, photos, and holiday activities throughout the evening.

Fountain Street between Broadway and Themis will be closed to vehicle traffic beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 28, but will remain open for pedestrians.

The event is sponsored by Banterra Bank, Top of the Marq, Primo Vino + Cask, Victoria’s Creamery, Ritter Communications, Ritter Real Estate and River Radio.
