Cape Police Department; ‘Chief’ running for America’s Favorite Dog

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI)- Our favorite canine in Cape Girardeau is competing to become America’s favorite dog.

Chief is a six-month-old Goldendoodle with a unique smile and a cleft lip.

He is a community service dog with the Cape Police Department and is winning the hearts of the community.

“Chiefs doing great around the office, he knows where all the treats are, he comes in every morning excited to see everybody, and makes his rounds for his daily treats.” Says, Officer Bobby Newton and his family chose Chief for their family pet, primarily for his cleft lip.

Their son was also born with a cleft, and they wanted the pair to have a special bond growing up together.

Newton adds, “Right now, my wife and I are the sole providers for Chief, it includes food, vet bills, training, and all the other costs of having a dog, with the winnings we would open an account, specifically for Chief, to help cover some of those expenses. Chief has graduated his basic training, first in his class I might add.”

Chief will be attending the next level of training and officer Newton says he couldn’t be prouder of his progress.
