Cape Police working to develop positive impact, interaction with community

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Cape Girardeau Police are keeping things positive with an initiative to interact with the community and share more on what officers do to protect the city.

“It’s not always a criminal setting that we’re visiting them.”

Police Information Officer Bobby Newton says that they really push officers to positively impact children most of all, wanting children to not be afraid to approach them if something is wrong.

Officer Newton says Cape Police do multiple positive activities for the community to see the officers face to face. For example, the Citizens Police Academy, which was a big hit this spring.

“The citizens get to come in and meet our officers face to face.” Says Newton.

The police department even offers the opportunity to do a ride along, giving the public a chance to really get a good insight into everything an officer does on a nightly basis, including handing out officer badge stickers.
