CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Construction on the Cape Rock Drive Sidewalk Project is expected to begin as early as July 6, with drivers advised to expect narrow lanes near the work zone.
City officials said contractor Nip Kelley will begin Phase 1 of the project near the Kingshighway intersection. Traffic will remain open in both directions, but half of the westbound lane will be closed in the area where crews are actively working.
Motorists are encouraged to slow down and follow posted traffic signs to help protect construction workers and other drivers.
The new sidewalk will be built along the north side of Cape Rock Drive. Phase 1 will extend from Kingshighway to Brookwood Drive and is expected to be completed by late October.
Construction on Phase 2, which will extend the sidewalk from Brookwood Drive to Perryville Road, will begin after the first phase is complete.
The project is funded primarily through two reimbursement grants from the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Transportation Alternatives Program.
