Cape Splash to open May 27
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Get ready for some summer fun. Cape Splash is set to open for the season on Memorial Day weekend.
Last August the water park had to close early due to low staffing numbers.
Aquatics Supervisor Robert Shanahan says those numbers were low due to the pandemic.
“There’s definitely a nationwide life guard shortage,” said Shanahan. “We’ve seen that every year since Covid, last year a third of the country a lot of those pools couldn’t open so we’re happy just to open, we rely a lot on high school and college age kids.”
Shanahan says that they’re really excited about opening day and the team has recruited 20 more staffers than they had available in 2022.
