Car Crashes Near Building, Missing Residents

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.(KBSI) — A scary moment unfolded at the intersection of Frederick and Independence street when a car came barreling toward a building with people inside.

Cece Boos, who was working inside at the time, recalled the experience.

“I was working inside this building on something, and I heard a big crash,” Boos said. “I looked up, and this red car was coming right at me.”

Fortunately, a cast iron post outside the building absorbed the impact, preventing the vehicle from crashing inside.

“I started to run, and it hit this cast iron post. Thank goodness the post was here, so it didn’t go in the building,” Boos said.

Witnesses at the scene suggested that one car may have run a stop sign, causing the other driver to swerve.

Boos noted that this isn’t the first time such an incident has occurred at this location.

“Years ago, a car did hit the building and go all the way in. And at that time, a man got killed,” she recalled.

The memory of that past tragedy remains fresh in her mind.

“Pretty scary,” she added.

Despite the recurring danger at the intersection, Boos, who has lived in the building for over 40 years, has no plans to leave.

“This is a bad corner. There are a lot of wrecks on this corner, and I wish they’d put a traffic light here,” she said.
