Car theft at gunpoint in Cape Girardeau; vehicle found in Perryville

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI)- On July 25 at about 7:00pm officers responded to the 2100-Block of William for a report of a carjacking.
The victim advised she left the vehicle running and the door open and walked towards the business to see if the business was open.
The suspect then walked to the open car door pulling out a handgun and entered the vehicle and left the area.
A witness of the incident was able to identify the suspect and the case is still being investigated. The vehicle was later abandoned by MotoMart in Perryville, Mo. The Perryville Police Department were able to locate it.
The vehicle will be returned to its owner after the vehicle has been processed for evidence.
No injuries were reported, and no arrests have been made at this time.
Bobby Newton, the Police Information Officer for the Cape Girardeau Police Department, said, “We’ve had about seventeen vehicle thefts in the last month, some of those are fail to return vehicles and some are legitimate thefts of vehicles.”
