CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) — The Carbondale Park District has announced the installation of a new aqua climbing wall at Super Splash Park after a community fundraising effort reached its goal.

Officials said the project raised $32,000 to cover the cost of the feature, which has been installed in the deep end of the park’s competition pool. The addition comes as the park prepares to celebrate its 10th anniversary during the 2026 season.

The climbing wall allows swimmers to scale a 16-foot vertical surface before dropping back into the water and is designed for supervised use.

Park district leaders said the project reflects strong community support and aligns with efforts to expand recreational opportunities and promote water safety skills.

Super Splash Park is scheduled to open for the season May 23, with additional programming and anniversary events planned.
