Carbondale Communities Women For Change movement Hosts their Annual Big Event
CARBONDALE, Il (KBSI) – On June 8, one day after national firearms awareness day, the Women for Change movement in Carbondale hosted their annual ‘Big Event” at Attucks Park.
The Big Event includes a peace march followed by live music, free food, entertainment, and a community basketball tournament in Carbondale.
The Vice President of the Women for Change movement, Deborah Woods says that “It’s a opportunity to celebrate, to celebrate the things we’ve been doing all year, to celebrate the people who have helped us do this all year and just have fellowship among the community members to have fellowship among the organizations, let them share there information’s and resources with the community so it’s an information time, it’s a celebration time and hopefully its a fun time for the kids.”
Deborah Woods went onto say that this event stretches further than just a small community in Carbondale but throughout the entire community in Carbondale and many surrounding counties. Deborah Woods then said that the hopes the event truly benefits the community by showing everyone that they ready to be there for people when it matters most.
“we just want to let everyone know that we are going to be active in the community from now on, and come join us in that effort because our motto is we are better together. Cant do it by our self, but we do it by partnering with other organizations, we do it by partnering with other groups, and we share in our resources and all it can do is help make the community better”
Bobby McBride helped host the Children basketball tournament and says the goal is to help bring people together.
“its a place where people can come out eat, have fun, enjoy themselves, and I’ve got to say we teamed up with the women of change and just try to make the community better.”
Crystal Kellum helps organize children’s basketball tournaments in Carbondale IL and she says that they help give back to the community and are a great place for children to have fun
” we’ve been doing this for years, and this a new one with women for change, and they asked us to participate and we have to bring back to the community basketball tournaments 3 on 3, 5 on 5 and we are going to get bigger and bigger each year so if you’re interested in doing it next year get in contact with myself or Bobby McBride and come out and have fun and bring the children.”

Deborah Woods hopes that this big event will help show everyone that there is a place for you to help others when it matters most. Deborah also took time to invite everyone to their free sewing room at the Eurma C Hayes center in Carbondale for there free events and opportunities for kids.
