CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — A Carbondale man has been charged after a stabbing early Saturday left two people seriously injured, police said.

Officers with the Carbondale Police Department responded around 2:12 a.m. March 21 to the 900 block of West Main Street for a report of a fight in progress.

Police said William D. Lee, 46, of Carbondale, was involved in an argument with two men stemming from an ongoing personal dispute. Lee, who had been sitting in a vehicle in a business parking lot, allegedly exited the vehicle with a large knife and attacked both individuals.

Lee left the scene before officers arrived, but police said he was located nearby and taken into custody.

Officers provided medical aid to the victims, who were transported to a hospital with serious injuries. One victim’s injuries were initially considered life-threatening but has since stabilized. The other victim was treated and later released.

Lee also sustained a serious but non-life-threatening self-inflicted injury and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

He was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and was later taken to the Jackson County Jail, where he is being held pending a detention hearing.

Police said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Carbondale Police Department.
