Carbondale man faces unlawful use of weapon by felon charges

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A Carbondale man faces several charges after police responded to a report of a disorderly person.

Antwoine C. Smith, 49, of Carbondale faces unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and possession of a firearm charges. He also have two Jackson County warrants for his arrest for unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and failure to appear in court for battery.

Police were called at 11:03 p.m. on May 20 for a report of a disorderly person in the 1900 block of South Illinois Avenue.

Police say Smith had two firearms in his possession. One firearm was reported stolen in January 2022.

Smith was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
