CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A Carbondale man faces firearms charges after police say he threatened them.

Tommy Garner, 19, faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of weapons, possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful possession of firearm and firearm ammunition, resisting a peace officer and threatening public official.

Carbondale police officers were monitoring a large gathering of people in a parking lot in the 700 block of East Grand Avenue around 1:36 a.m. on September 2.

Police say a fight broke out inside the gathering. Officers dispersed the crowd and tried to arrest those involved.

Police say Garner made threats toward police officers and tried to pull away from officers while he reached toward the waistline of his pants.

Officers arrested him.

Police found a firearm that had been previously reported out of Chicago in Garner’s pants.

Garner was taken to the Jackson County Jail.
