Carbondale man facing firearms charges after report of gunshot victim

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces charges after police responded to a report of a gunshot victim in Carbondale Wednesday afternoon.

The Carbondale Police Department responded at 3:50 p.m. to the 500 block of East Willow Street in reference to a report of a gunshot victim.

While responding to the scene officers saw a man walking quickly away from the scene. Officers told him to stop, but he discarded a bag and ran from the officers, according to police.

He was arrested after a brief foot chase.

Marshun D. Johnson, 19, of Carbondale faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and resisting/obstructing a peace cfficer.

Officers say they found a firearm in the bag dropped by Johnson.

The investigation into both incidents are active and ongoing.
