Carbondale man facing unlawful use of weapon, other charges

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces weapons charges after police stopped his vehicle in Carbondale.

On June 22, 2024 at 2:41 a.m. City of Carbondale police officers stopped a vehicle in the 1000 block of East Grand Avenue after learning the driver had a suspended Illinois Driver’s License.

Levar D. Woods, 26, of Carbondale, faces charges of driving while license suspended, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

“This incident highlights the importance of proactive policing and community cooperation,” said Interim City Manager and Police Chief Stan Reno. “The Carbondale Police Department remains committed to working tirelessly to remove illegal firearms from our community and to hold accountable those who engage in criminal activities. I commend the officers involved in this arrest for their quick response and professionalism during this traffic stop, which undoubtedly prevented potential harm in the Carbondale community.”

Woods was taken to the Jackson County Jail. The investigation is active and ongoing.
