CARBONDALE, Il., (KBSI)- Justin Perteet-Lovelady, 18, of Carbondale, Illinois, has been found guilty of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm for a shooting that occurred on June 21, 2024, in Carbondale.

The guilty verdict was delivered after a two-day trial in Jackson County, Illinois, on September 21, 2024.

According to evidence presented by State’s Attorney Joseph A. Cervantez, Carbondale police responded to reports of shots fired near Springer Street and West Main.

Video footage showed a man in dark clothing exiting a white vehicle and firing several shots at another vehicle traveling west on Main Street.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.

Perteet-Lovelady was arrested on June 24, 2024.

State’s Attorney Cervantez praised the Carbondale Police Department’s thorough investigation, which led to the successful prosecution.

“Local law enforcement officers did an outstanding job from the beginning to ensure a successful prosecution,” he said. “Neighbors near the shooting came together and stood up against the violence. Gun violence will not be tolerated in this close-knit community.”

Perteet-Lovelady will be sentenced soon and is required to serve 85% of his sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections, followed by up to three years of mandatory supervised release.

The Carbondale Police Department led the investigation, and State’s Attorney Joseph A. Cervantez prosecuted the case.
