Carbondale man sentenced to 50 years for murder of 3-year-old daughter

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A Carbondale man who was convicted of first degree murder of his daughter was sentenced Friday to 50 years behind bars.

Isaac Hill, 47, was found guilty of first degree murder on August 23, 2023 in a bench trial.

The charge stemmed from June 2022 of the death of his 3-year-old daughter.

On June 22, 2022, the Carbondale Police Department requested Illinois State Police to assist with the investigation of an injured 3-year-old girl who was brought to a local hospital by her father, identified as Hill.

His daughter was later pronounced dead.

Hill was arrested after an investigation and collaborative effort by ISP investigators, CPD, DCFS, Jackson County Coroner’s Office, and the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The Illinois State’s Attorney Appellate Prosecutors Office prosecuted the case against Hill. He was found guilty on August 23, 2023 following a bench trial in Jackson County.

On January 26, 2024, Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Steven M. J. Bost sentenced Hill to 50 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for first degree murder.

Katrina S. Simelton, 41, also faced a charge of child endangerment (Class 3 Felony).
