Carbondale man sentenced to 88 years for 1st degree murder

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A Carbondale man was sentenced to 88 years for first degree murder.

Devale L. Johnson, 26, of of Carbondale was sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections after a sentencing hearing held on June 28.

Carbondale Police officers responded to Robert A. Stalls Avenue for a complaint of shots fired on August 17, 2020.

Officers found Jamonte Allison, Sr. of Carbondale. He was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, where he was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

The Carbondale Police Department led an investigation which led to the arrest of three men, Victor Purdiman, 32, of Paducah, Micah Williams, 25, of Centralia, and Devale Johnson 26, of Carbondale.

Purdiman and Williams pleaded guilty to their involvement in Allison’s death while Devale Johnson was found
guilty after a jury trial which lasted two weeks.

State’s Attorney Cervantez conducted the sentencing hearing on June 28.

After arguments that lasted throughout the morning and early afternoon, the court sentenced Johnson to 88 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Johnson will have to serve 100 percent of the sentence.
