JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A Carbondale man was sentenced to 99 years behind bars for home invasion and sexual assault.

Kyle C. Locklear, 33, of Carbondale, was sentenced to 99 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

He will serve 85% of the sentence.

Locklear was found guilty earlier this year of two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault of a person over the age of 60, two counts of home invasion and one count each of residential burglary and aggravated unlawful restraint.

In a weeklong trial, Jackson County State’s Attorney Joseph A. Cervantez presented evidence that on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at around 11:21 a.m., Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home just outside of Carbondale city limits in Jackson County regarding a home invasion and sexual assault.

Locklear entered through a back window of a rural home while the homeowner was present. After the night long attack, he left with her phone and purse, according to Cervantez.

The survivor made her way to a landline and called for help.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation.

Locklear was arrested on May 2, 2021.

Joseph A. Cervantez, Jackson County State’s Attorney, praised the work of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and said the experience and training of the Sheriff’s Office was evident and on full display throughout the investigation and during the trial.

Locklear was found guilty on March 2, 2023.

The investigation was led by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and assisted by the Illinois State Police, among others.
