CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) — Carbondale leaders are marking Women’s History Month by creating space for community conversation focused on women’s rights and survivor support.

The City of Carbondale partnered with the Survivor Empowerment Center to host the “At the Table” Dinner & Dialogue event Tuesday, March 3, at the Carbondale Civic Center.

Organizers say this month’s theme, “250 Years of Her Story: Strength, Survival, and Solidarity,” highlights pivotal movements, landmark laws and ongoing efforts to support survivors and advance women’s rights.

The Dinner & Dialogue series brings community members together for facilitated discussions while sharing a meal. Leaders say the goal is to encourage open conversation among people from different backgrounds and experiences.

The event also aims to connect survivors in Southern Illinois with local resources and support services.

Doors opened at 5 p.m., with the discussion beginning at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, though seating is limited.

Organizers say conversations like these are designed to strengthen community understanding and ensure survivors know help is available.

FOX23’s Tallis Johnson will provide updates following the event.
