CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) – Carbondale City Councilmember Adam Loos has issued a public apology after making an obscene gesture toward audience members during Tuesday night’s city council meeting.
In video footage from the meeting, Loos can be seen raising both middle fingers multiple times toward several participants following a heated exchange about the relocation of a homeless encampment within city limits.
Before the outburst, several individuals in the audience could be heard booing and shouting expletives at Loos. In response, he replied, “louder, please,” before making the gestures.
Mayor Carolin Harvey immediately addressed the behavior, saying, “Please do not encourage that behavior.” The individuals involved in the exchange left the meeting shortly afterward.
Loos has served on the Carbondale City Council since 2015. His current term expires in 2027.
The full video of the meeting is available on the city’s website.
