Carbondale police accepting applications for Citizens Police Academy

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — The Carbondale Police Department is accepting applications for its Citizens Police Academy, a free program designed to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the community.

The academy offers participants an inside look at police operations, including department divisions, patrol procedures, traffic stops, investigations and crime scene processing. The program also provides opportunities for residents to ask questions, share concerns and learn more about the challenges faced by officers.

Classes will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays: Feb. 4, Feb. 11, Feb. 18, Feb. 25 and March 4.

Anyone is eligible to apply, though all applicants will undergo a background check. Participation in the Citizens Police Academy is not part of the hiring process for police officers.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, and may be completed online through Citizens Police Academy | Carbondale, IL. Applications are also available at the police department, 501 S. Washington St.
