Carbondale police arrest 18-year-old on firearm charges

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) – On June 26, 2026, at approximately 10:14 p.m., officers with the City of Carbondale Police Department responded to a reported disturbance in the 700 block of East Grand Avenue.
During the investigation, officers located a vehicle occupied by three juveniles and 18-year-old Dylan J. Dunway of Carbondale. Police say Dunway was illegally in possession of a firearm found inside the vehicle.
Dunway was arrested and charged with:
- Aggravated Possession of a Firearm
- Unlawful Possession of Firearm Ammunition without a Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) Card
He was transported to the Jackson County Jail, where he is being held pending a detention hearing. The three juveniles were released to their families.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Cash rewards may be available for information leading to an arrest.
As with all criminal charges, the allegations against Dunway are accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
