Carbondale police arrest 2, search for 1 after traffic stop

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – Carbondale police arrested two people and officers are searching for another after a vehicle was stopped late Friday night.

Carbondale police officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 500 block of East Main Street at 11:20 p.m. on Friday, August 25.

When the vehicle stoped, three of the people in the vehicle ran away.

One of the suspects who ran away was recognized as a 17-year old male known to be wanted on a Jackson County juvenile warrant for a weapons offense and an Illinois Department of Corrections parole violation warrant. He was found in the 300 block of East Walnut Street and arrested.

A second suspect, Robert R. Martin, 20, of Herrin, was found in the 400 block of East Jackson Street and arrested.

A third suspect was last seen in the 300 block of East Walnut Street. Police have not found that suspect.

Officers recovered two firearms.

The 17-year old juvenile faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and resisting a peace officer in addition to the two warrants.

Martin faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, resisting a peace officer and a Saline County warrant for aggravated domestic battery.

Martin and the juvenile were taken to the Jackson County Jail.
